How to Be More Awesome

how to lose fatI’m writing this on Sunday morning, and I just had an awesome sleep.  Even though I have a butt load of things to do today, I still know I’m going to have an awesome day.

How do I know?

Because I said so, duh.

True story.

Here’s how to be more awesome:

This is your brain on drugs…

I think your brain is more powerful than you think.  If you start the day with a great mindset, and tell yourself:

Holy shit Jason, today’s going to be such a GREAT day.

Then you’ll have a great day.  (Obviously, you don’t have to say “Jason” if your name isn’t actually “Jason”).

Try starting your morning every day with this mindset and you’ll instantly be happier and more awesome.

Making Progress with Nutrition

This past week, I received an email from a stressed out nutrition coaching client.  He was having a tough time because his personal trainer said he couldn’t have a cheat meal after his workout because he had been taking too many that week.

This made him feel bad and he ended up going for a walk and not eating anything at all for 4 hours; only to end up at the grocery store making food choices that he wasn’t proud of.

how to lose fatThis is bad news bears.

In my mind, if a client is having 20 cheat meals a week, my goal is to get them to be having 19 per week instead.  This is what making progress is all about.

With my coaching, I give habits that are easy to accomplish.  This sets the client up for success instead of failure, and allows me to say, “You are doing such an amazing job…You are killing it!…Be proud of yourself!”.

In the end, it’s all about being happy.  Happy people make good choices.

With my coaching clients, the definition of a cheat meal is any meal that doesn’t comply with your nutrition habits.  In the case above, the only habits this client had were to get a complete protein with every meal, make sure to eat a meal between 12-3pm, and to take their fish oil every day.

If the client didn’t manage to do this, then the meal is a cheat meal.

Sure, this means that as long as they eat a large chicken breast with their poutine between 12-3pm and take their fish oil, then this isn’t a cheat meal.

This is cool for now, but in a few weeks, this will probably be some vegetables instead of a poutine.

My job isn’t to make their life a living hell.  It’s to help them make positive changes until they are perfect.  It’ll take some time, but one day, they’ll wake up and be shredded, and have no clue how the heck they got there.  The process is so easy

It’s like when you fall asleep on the plane and wake up at your destination.

Holy shit, I got there and didn’t even realize it.  That was easy.

Ease Yourself In

You need to set yourself up for success and make gradual progress.  With gradual progress, you will still get to where you want to go, but once you get there (AKA look freakin’ amazing), you will stay there.  9 times out of 10, that’s more important than a quick fix.

The Quick Fix to Maintenance

With my coaching clients, I make sure to ease them into the process so they can enjoy it, make progress, and keep their gains.

If they are advanced, then we will do a semi-quick fix.  This is more of a “listen to what Jason says and do EVERYTHING”.  It takes a certain type of person to be able to just do what I say.  That’s what makes them advanced.  For these people, this is known as the Quick Fix to Maintenance.  We get them to their goal fast and then show them how to stay there.  The only difference between this and easing yourself in is the time it takes to get there, and the type of person who is getting coached.

The last thing we want is failure.

Programs and Systems

When I write programs/books and sell them online, they are the Quick Fix to Maintenance.  This is because there’s not a way for me to coach you back and forth and change things on the fly.  In this case, I present to you a program that will work AMAZINGLY if you follow it to a “T”.  I tell you what to eat, when to workout, and what to do for your workouts, and voila: instant changes.

If you have problems following the program, then that’s what coaching is actually for, but there’s no harm in trying out a program first since it’s a much more economic friendly option.

For example, I wrote the dirtiest muscle building program on the planet and am having a few people in Waterloo test it out, including my best friend, Tyler.

He’s blogging about the experience and he’s kicking ass.  For people with willpower like Tyler, a quick fix program will work wonders on them.

So far, in 10 days, Tyler has lost 14lbs of fat and gained 4 lbs of muscle.  In only 10 freakin’ days, he’s made this progress on the Accelerator program that will set him up to build even MORE MUSCLE when he starts the official program.  That’s right, he’s only done the unofficial pre-program.  He is the definition of awesome.  When you follow a program, it works.  He’s proof.  Check out his latest blog post by clicking here.

Why Being Awesome is…well…AWESOME

The best part about life is being happy.  If you’re happy, you’ll be more successful and awesome.  If getting into the best shape of your life is your definition of awesome, then ease yourself into changing your daily habits towards something more positive.  If you make yourself 1% better each week, in 2 years you’ll set yourself up for 50+ more years of amazing awesomeness; and who doesn’t want to be awesome for the rest of their life?
